What is it?
It’s not enough to have data privacy policies and processes in place; they only work if people apply
them. Your responsibility under data privacy law goes beyond simply putting together the
documentation - you need to make sure that everyone in your organisation understands why data
privacy matters and what it means for them in their day to day work.
Part of that is making sure your employees undergo appropriate training, of course, but more than
that, you need to keep data privacy at the forefront of their minds not just when they are completing
their annual training but all year round, so it’s second nature to them. You also need to ensure that
everyone - from the CEO to the person who works on reception - understands how to play their part.
To really succeed in embedding data privacy into your business, you need to engage your whole
team, and that is much easier if you can make data privacy user-friendly and show that it’s a
positive thing rather than something to be dreaded.
How you raise and maintain that awareness will depend on a lot of different factors. What works for
one organisation won’t always work for another. We’ve seen and done everything from occasional
e-mail reminders through to full-blown ‘Data Protection Week’ campaigns with competitions, posters,
fancy dress and give-aways!
The important thing is to fit your awareness activities to your business’ culture, operations, people,
way of working, and - of course - to spend your budget wisely on something that will work for you.
We can help you devise an effective internal awareness strategy to fit your business and your
budget, whether that’s just a couple of posters or a parade with a full mariachi band!
Who is it for?
This is for any business that needs to raise or maintain employee awareness of data privacy.
