What is it?

Privacy Made to Measure is a more traditional consultancy approach that offers our expertise and guidance but charged by the day. However, because we do things a little differently, we don’t do the open-ended ‘we’ll be here as long as it takes’ model of consultancy (unless that’s what you want, of course); we don’t think that’s good for your business or for the relationship between us. Instead, we’ll be clear, honest and realistic about how the long work will take, agree upfront the number of days’ work you would like, and confirm the total price you’ll pay and what we’ll deliver in that time. In cases where we really can’t say how long work will take before we start, we’ll agree a minimum and maximum number of days beforehand and keep you informed as we go along.

Who is it for?

This is ideal for any business that prefers the more traditional ‘daily rate’ approach to consultancy, and any business that: • Needs a broader programme of work rather than one or more specific services • Is larger or more complex in structure or operations • Uses personal data in more complex ways (such as behavioural analysis, data sharing, or for personalising services) or handles a lot of sensitive data (such as health or financial details or religious or political opinions). • has not yet done any work on data privacy, or has not yet looked at the impact of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) on their operations • Doesn’t yet know what services or support they need

How does it work?

Simple - we’ll have an quick chat by phone or e-mail to establish your interest or answer any questions. If you’d like to move forward we’ll arrange a more detailed discussion by Zoom/Teams/Skype (or, where appropriate, in person), at which we’ll discuss your business and what you’re looking for. WDP will then prepare a quotation, showing how many days the work will take so you can decide whether you want to go ahead with all or part of the work and we can finalise dates and details. We charge £75 for the initial discussion and preparation of the quotation but this is deducted from the cost of any services you purchase either then or within the next six months.

What’s included in the Made-to-Measure Service?

All businesses are different, so what’s included will depend on what your business needs and what you want to do, but typically our Made to Measure service would comprise a full end to end data privacy programme beginning with a review of what’s needed and going on to put the necessary measures in place. It will usually include some or all of the elements shown on our ‘Privacy À la carte’ page, such as privacy policies, training, and contract wording, but how much you do is up to you. We’ll tailor a programme to suit your needs, your priorities and your budget. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a full end-to-end programme; you might simply want to look at or work on one specific area of data privacy, such as staff training, targeted marketing or setting up a data governance framework. We can be as flexible as you need us to be. Just as with our Privacy À la Carte option, we’ll agree up front the price, timings and what you’ll get for your money, and if we really cannot say how long the work will take, we’ll agree a minimum and maximum before we start.

Always included are:

• Initial meeting/discussion and preparation of a quotation (charged at £75, but refunded if work goes ahead) • Kick-off meeting and discussions with key members of your organisation • A programme of work as agreed, at our daily rate • Preparation of all necessary documents as part of the agreed programme • Wrap-up meeting when work finishes • All email, phone or online conversations while work is underway • Follow-up call at 3 months post-completion • A Reasonable number of brief follow-up phone calls/e-mail queries in the weeks immediately after work is complete • 10% off any future work

What’s Not included?

• Mileage and accommodation costs, if applicable • ICO registration fees, venue hire or other specific costs incurred in the course of the work • Ongoing support (other than reasonable follow-up queries and 3-month follow-up call)

Why is there a charge for Preparing a quotation?

As we hope you’ve noticed, WDP is built on fairness and transparency and that works both ways. We’re a small business, so offering free quotations simply isn’t feasible or realistic for us if it doesn’t lead to work; it takes time and thought to put together a fair and realistic quotation. We know that you may be shopping around and obtaining a number of quotations, and we believe that’s the right thing for you to do, but at the same time we need to cover our costs. We think £75 is a fair amount to charge to cover our costs without putting our service out of reach of potential clients, large or small. Remember, if you go on to purchase our services within 6 months of receiving your quotation, we deduct the £75 you’ve already paid from your bill, as we consider it all part of our end to end service.
